Career Development Counselor

Position Summary:  The Career Development Counselor (CDC) supports students in preparing for effective job searches through individual and group career coaching. Recognizing LCC’s international distinctive, The CDC supports students in preparing for job searches in both the Lithuanian and global job markets and facilitates connections to part-time, full-time, and summer employment opportunities. The CDC establishes annual strategic goals in three focal areas: a) career coaching; b) partnership development; and c) employment support. 

Duties and Responsibilities:       

1. Career Coaching – plan, implement, and deliver individual and group career coaching to students to help them make informed career decisions that align with their skills, interests, and academic and professional goals in both the Lithuanian and global job markets.  

Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  1. Career-coaching tools such as CliftonStrengths and training are infused into students’ experience to meet approved learning outcomes:
    • Facilitate 1:1 appointments to review assessment results, help students interpret top five talent themes and connect them to potential career paths, job search strategies, interview preparation and real-world scenarios. 
    • Facilitate group sessions to discuss results and align talent within specific roles or industries. 
    • Maintain database of students and their top 5 talents for use in other areas of the student experience. 
  2. Partnerships with academic departments and the Student Success Center are established to enhance and unify career support for students of different majors.
  3. Career workshops, field trips, and internships are organized to equip students to use their major in job and career paths. 
  4. Evaluation of learning outcomes, formal assessments, and qualitative feedback demonstrate improved career readiness among students.
  5. Individual statistical data, records, documents, and information on the website are accurately maintained.
2. Employer and Industry Partnerships - proactively engage employers and social partners in Lithuania and abroad to provide meaningful experiences, internships, mentoring connections, industry knowledge, and sponsorships to students.  

Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  1. A growing number of strategic, mutually beneficial partnerships with employers are established each year and partnership information is kept updated in a database. 
  2. Career fair, networking events, and other programming where students and employers are brought together are delivered in a consistent and compelling manner.
  3. Information for employers on LCC’s website is accurately maintained and timely updated.
  4. Students are connected to practicum placements and opportunities are widely advertised to them through official channels and platforms. 
 
3. Employment/Graduate School Pathways – provide assistance and support in locating part-time, summer, and full-time employment opportunities and/or admission to graduate school programs locally and internationally.  Provide interview preparation and coaching for both job and migration-related processes to support international opportunities.  

Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  1. Employment trends and opportunities in Lithuania and abroad in various industries are researched and analyzed regularly and presented to students.
  2. Students are prepared for visa or migration interviews for international studies or job opportunities. 
  3. Students are educated in CV/resume-building, interview skills, effective job searching, through the delivery of content in-person and online.
  4. Information about part-time and summer employment opportunities is presented in a clear, consistent, and accessible manner.
  5. Students feel confident about their skills for securing employment or admission to a graduate school program. 
Relationships:   

REPORTS TO     Director of Student Success & Wellness
WORKS CLOSELY WITH     Student Life Division, Director of Alumni Relations, Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Director of Migration Affairs, Admissions, Faculty, Registrar, Department Chairs, Marketing, Advancement office.   

 Required Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a related area (Human Resources, Counseling, etc.) preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a professional work setting; Higher Education work experience is a benefit.
  • Coaching, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong self-motivation and initiative.
  • International Experience.
  • Fluent in both Lithuanian and English.
  • High level of customer service; collaboration, strong work ethic; attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, planning, networking, mentoring and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with career assessment instruments, career counseling techniques, career development theory, etc.
