Volunteer English Teacher, ELC Summer Camps (June or August 2026)

Position Summary: As an English Day Camp Teacher you will serve young learners who are developing their English language skills through participation in  LCC's English Day Camps. These camps are run by LCC's English Language Center (ELC).  You will support the day camps by teaching English lessons. This role involves working closely with camp staff, assisting with daily camp operations, and contributing to a positive educational experience for children and young teens..

Responsibilities:

  • Teach English lessons to children in grades 1–4 and/or grades 5–8 as part of the English Day Camp program.
  • Deliver approximately 4–5 lessons per day, with each lesson lasting 30–45 minutes depending on the camp schedule.
  • Support and participate in English Club activities and other camp learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with ELC teachers to reflect on teaching experiences and discuss challenges or improvements.
  • Assist with pre-camp preparations, including classroom setup, decoration, and organizing teaching materials and supplies.
  • Participate in required pre-camp training sessions  (in-person or online).
Instructional Materials:
  • Lesson plans and core materials are provided by the English Language Center.
  • Teachers may supplement lessons with additional materials or activities if desired.

Reports to:
  • Day Camp Coordinator
  • ELC Director
Works closely with:
  • ELC Teachers and Group Leaders
  • Camp Staff 
Requirements:

Successful teachers are individuals who demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills and who are comfortable working with children and young teens in a group setting. Teachers should approach their responsibilities with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to supporting students’ learning and development.

Teachers should demonstrate the following qualities:
  • Organization and preparation: Ability to manage time effectively and maintain well-structured activities or lessons.
  • Creativity and flexibility: Willingness to adapt to different situations and create engaging learning experiences.
  • Leadership and confidence: Comfort guiding and supervising a group of children or young teens.
  • Responsibility and professionalism: A clear understanding that teaching and group leadership are meaningful responsibilities that require commitment and care.
  • Positive attitude toward students: Demonstrating humility, patience, warmth, and respect toward all learners.
  • Team collaboration: Willingness to cooperate closely with fellow teachers, group leaders, and camp staff in an atmosphere of collegiality and mutual support.

Teachers and group leaders should also be willing to participate in pre-camp training sessions (online or in-person) and actively contribute to the overall mission and community environment of the English Day Camps.
