Director of Student Success & Wellness

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of the Student Success & Wellness will actively lead and contribute to institution wide efforts to support academic learning, coordinate positive student wellness initiatives, and ensure overall student success. The Director will have oversight in four areas that contribute to student success a) first year programming and integration; b) disability support; c) interdepartmental student retention initiatives; d) student success & wellness. The Director serves as a member of the Student Life Management Team (SLMT).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. First Year Programming and Integration  

  • Support the university’s Freshmen Orientation, with Student Life leadership. 

  • Assess students’ needs on a regular basis in order to facilitate a successful transition to the university. 

  • Annually evaluate and revise the FYS curriculum and ensure it meets its learning outcomes. 

  • Ensure support and opportunities for new students to positively integrate and encourage retention. 

2.   Disability Support 

  • Ensure support for students with documented disabilities in their curricular and co-curricular endeavors. 

  • Lead the Disability Support Committee as it reviews students’ requests for reasonable accommodations. 

  • Facilitate student testing accommodations by ensuring a proctor and space are available.  

  • Consult with faculty members and students as challenges arise in the classroom related to academic accommodations. 

3.   Interdepartmental Student Retention Initiatives 

  • Serve as a champion for student success and retention, providing leadership to various interdepartmental retention efforts and encouraging a variety of stakeholder participation.  

  • Demonstrate LCC’s values in all internal and external communication and relationships. 

  • Serve as the Chairperson for the Committee on Academic Standing, ensuring student accountability to institutional academic standards in collaboration with faculty and staff partners. 

  • Oversee the LCC Cares initiative by ensuring effective management of the early alert system and leading regular meetings with the Collaborative Care team. 

  • Develop new retention initiatives in collaboration with partners across campus to better identify at-risk students and strategies to maximize retention. 

4.   Student Success and Wellness 

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate initiatives to support a holistic approach to success and wellness including academic, social, career, and mental health support. Sets vision, tone, and goals for Student Success & Wellness team.  

  • Ensure the Student Success & Wellness team is effectively represented on campus and collaborates with LCC staff/faculty from other departments.  

  • Offer professional development and support to Student Success & Wellness staff in leading relevant programming, services, and education. 

  • Regularly assess and improve success & wellness initiatives. 

RELATIONSHIPS: 
REPORTS TO:  Student Life Vice President  
SUPERVISES:  Counselors, Career Development Counselor, Academic Support Specialist, Front Desk Manager
WORKS CLOSELY WITH:  Faculty, Registrar, Student Life staff, Admissions Department  

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education:  
Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field is required.   

Experience:  At least 5 years as Student Life administrator and/or Student Life/Student Development experience.  
Experience in student success centers. Experience supervising intercultural staff and managing budgets. Experience planning large-scale events is preferred.  

Passion:  To help students flourish in their academic and personal development, connect to campus and persist to receiving a degree.

  1. Firm commitment to LCC’s mission. 

  1. Experience with diverse student populations. 

  1. Understanding of developmental concerns of university age populations.

  1. Ability to develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty.  

  1. Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. 

  1. Excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills. 

  1. Strong self-motivation and initiative.  

  1. Experience with intercultural issues and international student populations and ability to work in a diverse environment. 

Other:  Occasional evening and weekend work for events and orientation.

Graduate Assistantship for MA programs:
The Graduate Assistantship Program is an opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue an M. A. in TESOL or International Management. LCC has created 2 assistantships for students serving as Graduate Resident Directors starting Fall 2023. These assistantships include on-campus housing, one roundtrip flight and a 100% tuition discount. Students will serve in Residence Life and Housing.  
Expectations include: 
  • 30 hours a week in Residence Life and Housing
  • 40 work days of vacation per year
  • 3-year contract
