Director of Housing and Residence Life (Aug 2025)

Position Summary
The Director of Housing and Residence life will actively lead and contribute to institution wide efforts to ensure positive student engagement in University housing, support for living-learning program as well as student development.  The Director chairs the Committee on Discipline (COD) and serves as a member of the Student Life Management Team (SLMT), WeCare Team and is the primary contact for matters involving residents or the residence halls.   The director will have oversight of four focal areas that contribute to student success: a) Departmental Leadership, b) Residential Living Learning Model c) Conduct Management d) Facilities and Housing Management. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:           
  1. Departmental Leadership - Sets vision, tone and goals for the Department of Residence Life and Housing. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and develops professional and temporary summer staff.  Reviews and revises official departmental manuals, documents, policies, procedures, calendars and information. 
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • The department is effectively represented on campus and collaborates with LCC staff/faculty from other departments
  • Departmental professional staff effectively fulfill position responsibilities
  • Departmental professional staff effectively receive appropriate mentoring and professional development of skills, competencies and work-life balance
  • Emergency procedures are understood and response to crisis situations is done in accordance with departmental and institutional emergency procedures 
  1. Residential Living Learning Model – plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive policies, programs and initiatives to support student needs, community development, student success and wellness, and spiritual development of residential students. 
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • Policies and programs actively foster a sense of community and meet learning outcomes of residential curriculum
  • Policies and programs facilitate student development to increase skills as well as understanding of self and the world around them
  • Students positively engage in their community
  • Visibility and availability on campus is maintained in order to understand the needs of the student community 
  • Annual assessment of Residential Living Learning initiatives is implemented and evaluated
  • Summer Language Institute and other LCC programs with residential component are implemented
  1. Student Conduct Management - maintain confidentiality and provide appropriate assistance to students who have violated policies and/or navigating challenges, personal struggles, and difficult circumstances.  Oversees management of more minor violations and directly manages more severe violations.
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • Cases are addressed in a timely manner in accordance with established procedures
  • Knowledge of campus resources is demonstrated and timely and efficient referrals are made
  • Students develop skills to effectively navigate personal issues and identify healthy support systems
  • Students develop skills to effectively navigate conflict with others and develop an appreciation for diversity
  • Students have a low rate for repeated policy violations and well-being challenges
  • Students understand the restorative justice model and understand how their conduct impacts others
  1. Facilities and Housing Management – oversee the daily operations of the residence halls and manage the departmental budget, software and housing assignments for students and academic year guests.
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • Supervision of desk operations, occupancy, and proper building maintenance is ensured 
  • Housing assignments and billing completed in accordance with priorities, housing philosophy, and residential curriculum 
  • Safe and secure housing environment is provided 
  • The halls operate smoothly with minimal student dissatisfaction and service interruptions
  • Larger and long-term improvement projects are coordinated with other departments  

Relationships:  

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Student Life
SUPERVISES:    Resident Directors and Front Desk Manager
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Student Life Staff, Registrar’s Office, Finance Office, Student Financial Services, Facilities Staff, Information Technology Staff, Human Resources. 

General Qualifications:  

  • People-oriented, creative, sincere, and depth of Christian faith commitment; firm commitment to LCC's mission
  • Experience in Student Development and/or Higher Education and working with student populations; understanding of developmental concerns of university-age populations; ability to encourage personal growth in others; ability to initiate relationships and develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills; strong self-motivation and initiative
  • Experience with intercultural issues and international student populations and ability to work in a diverse environment 
Specific Qualifications:
  • Degrees: Master degree required, in a related field of Student Personnel, Counseling, Ministry of Higher Education and Student Development preferred
  • Experiences: 3+ year required; 5+ years working in higher education, residence life, international communities preferred; supervision and budget management required; crisis management and departmental leadership preferred
  • Skills: English proficiency required, Lithuanian and Russian preferred; proficiency using technology platforms and database systems required, MS Teams and eRezLife preferred; ability to creatively innovate, strategize utilizing limited resources and anticipate unintended consequences required; ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal guidance required  
Work load:   Full-time (1.0 FTE)
