Director of Student Engagement & Formation (August 2024)

Position Summary 
The Director of Engagement and Formation will actively lead and contribute to institution wide efforts to ensure overall positive student engagement, learning, and formation outside of the classroom. The Director develops policies and programs that enhance learning outcomes and university distinctives and serves on Student Life Management Team and as a conduct hearing officer. The Director will have oversight of activities in four focal areas that contribute to this area: a) student activities and engagement; b) leadership development; c) service learning and volunteering; d) diversity and inclusion.  

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  1. Student activities and engagement- oversight of student activities and programs that increase student engagement, learning, and integration into the university community  
  2. Leadership development and support for student organizations – coordination of the Leadership Development Program (LDP) and supervision, training, and support of Student Council and student organizations 
  3. Service learning and volunteering – development and coordination of community service opportunities and their formal recognition   
  4. Diversity and inclusion – development and supervision of programs and policies that support intercultural development and inclusion  

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Student Life  
SUPERVISES: Intercultural Education Coordinator  
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Student Life Staff, Student Success Center, Center for International Education 

General qualifications:  

  • People-oriented, creative, sincere, and depth of Christian faith commitment.  Firm commitment to LCC's mission 
  • Experience in Student Development and/or Higher Education and working with student populations. Understanding of developmental concerns of University age populations. Ability to encourage personal growth in others. Ability to initiate relationships and develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty 
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills. Strong self-motivation and initiative 
  • Experience with intercultural issues and international student populations and ability to work in a diverse environment. 

Job- Specific Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in a related field of Student Personnel, Counseling, Ministry or Higher Education and Student Development  
  • Exceptional administrative and organizational skills 
  • Event coordination 
  • Experience working with MS Teams or other online platforms 
  • Experience as a student life administrator and/or 5+ years student life experience (preferred)
