Director of Student Success & Wellness

Position Summary
The Director of the Student Success & Wellness will actively lead and contribute to institution wide efforts to support academic learning, coordinate positive student wellness initiatives, and ensure overall student success. The Director will have oversight in three areas that contribute to student success a) freshmen engagement; b) leadership development of FYS student leaders; and c) student success & wellness. The Director oversees the LCC Cares Initiative and serves as a member of the Student Life Management Team (SLMT).  
Duties and Responsibilities:           
  1. Freshmen engagement – plan, implement, and assess University’s freshmen Orientation, First Year Seminar, and other relevant programming. 
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • Students’ needs are assessed on a regular basis in order to facilitate a successful transition to the university 
  • ​FYS curriculum is annually evaluated and is meeting its learning outcomes 
  • Freshmen demonstrate better engagement and improved retention 
  1. Leadership development of FYS leaders - recruit, train, and mentor FYS student leaders in order to meet the LDP goals. 
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • FYS student leaders are supported and positively engage in the LCC community 
  • ​Student leaders demonstrate enhanced leadership skills as well as understanding of self and the world around them 
  • FYS team implements programming to increase freshmen involvement 
  1. Student Success & Wellness – plan, implement, and evaluate initiatives to support a holistic approach to success and wellness including academic, social, career, and mental health wellness. Sets vision, tone, and goals for Student Success & Wellness team.   
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:
  • The Student Success & Wellness Center is effectively represented on campus and collaborates with LCC staff/faculty from other departments.  
  • ​Student Success & Wellness staff are trained and supported in leading wellness programming, services, and education. Professional development training and resources are adequately provided 
  • Programs and initiatives facilitate student development of wellness skills. Students exhibit increased wellness practices. 
  • Annual assessment of success & wellness initiatives and their impact is implemented and evaluated. 
  • Student retention is supported, data is accurately tracked and retention reports are regularly provided for informed decision making  


REPORTS TO: Student Life Vice President 
SUPERVISES: Counselors, Career Development Coordinator, Academic Support Coordinator 
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Faculty, Registrar, Student Life staff, Admissions Department 

General Qualifications:  

  • People-oriented, creative, sincere, and depth of Christian faith commitment.  Firm commitment to LCC's mission.  
  • Experience in Student Development and/or Higher Education and working with student populations. Understanding of developmental concerns of University age populations. Ability to encourage personal growth in others. Ability to initiate relationships and develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty.  
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills. Strong self-motivation and initiative.  
  • Experience with intercultural issues and international student populations and ability to work in a diverse environment.   
Job-specific qualifications:
  • Master's degree Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field is required.   
  • Experience as a student life administrator and/or 5+ years of student life experience  
  • Experience with supervising intercultural staff and managing budgets. Experience planning large-scale events is preferred.   
Work load:   Full-time (1.0 FTE)
