Position Summary:
The Academic Support Coordinator will actively lead and contribute to institution wide efforts to ensure overall student success, support academic learning, and improve retention of LCC students. The coordinator will have oversight in two areas that contribute to student success: a) support for ‘at-risk’ students; b) student engagement and retention. Serves as a member of the Committee on Academic Standing (CAS), and the WeCare Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Support for academically ‘at-risk’ students – identify and support “at-risk” students to improve their academic performance.
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:

“At-risk” students (academic probation, conditional admission, academic warning, and those with a disability) are supported through individual strategies and their academic performance is improved.
Early alerts systems are maintained, and all cases are accurately managed in CRM.
Support first-year student support initiatives as needed (New Student Orientation, First Year Seminar, etc.)
Individual statistical data, records, and documents are accurately maintained.

2. Individual and group tutoring – coordinate campus resources to support students academically
Satisfactory performance is achieved when:

A schedule of a comprehensive menu of academic services (tutoring of math, writing, etc.) is managed effectively to assist students in becoming independent and intentional learners.
Innovative initiatives (workshops, seminars, in-class presentations, discipline-specific assignments) support students in their success and development of study skills. Performed in coordination with Director of Student Success & Wellness.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Success & Wellness
SUPERVISES: Student tutors
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Faculty, Registrar, Student Life staff

General Qualifications

People-oriented, creative, sincere, and depth of Christian faith commitment. Firm commitment to LCC's mission
Experience in Student Development and/or Higher Education and working with student populations. Understanding of developmental concerns of University age populations. Ability to encourage personal growth in others. Ability to initiate relationships and develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty
Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills. Strong self-motivation and initiative.
Possess knowledge of academic skills and a passion for academic excellence and persistence.
Experience with intercultural issues and international student populations and ability to work in a diverse environment.

Job-specific Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. Master's degree Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field is preferred.
Experience working with international student populations. 2+ years of student life experience is preferred.
Experience working with data management systems and keeping case reporting.

Work load: Part-time (0.5 FTE)
